The Public Health Agency of Canada said it is \u0022closely monitoring\u0022 the situation and will advise of any changes via a travel health notice.

Commencing Jan. 5, all travellers arriving in the United States from flights originating in China — regardless of nationality — will be subject to mandatory COVID-19 tests. On Thursday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urged Americans to reconsider travelling to China.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese told local media on Thursday that he has no plans to impose restrictions on aircraft arriving from China, saying public health officials will continue to monitor the situation. During a Thursday press conference, foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin called the new restrictions “ill-intentioned” and part of international efforts to discredit China.COVID response measures need to be science-based and proportionate and apply equally to people of all countries without affecting normal travel and people-to-people exchange and cooperation,” he told reporters.

It’s a sentiment shared by University of Toronto Bioethics and Global Health Professor Kerry Bowman, who said Canada’s making the right move.
