Belgium is among the best in the world, and it wasn’t too long ago they were ranked the highest. Coming into the World Cup, they are struggling somewhat, however, losing 2-1 to Egypt in an exhibition game on Friday, which didn’t sit well with the Belgian press.Article content “On any given day, any team can beat anyone,” said Canada striker Jonathan David. “If it falls on the right day, of course we can win.”
“We want to surprise people, because I think people still see us as underdogs and things like this; and Canada and the World Cup, they should just be happy to be here,” Osorio said. “But that’s not our mentality. We’re here to compete, to compete at a high level. We believe within our group. With the quality that we have and our brotherhood we can go as far as we want to go.
“I think, internally, Canada, we’re starting to expect things from us,” said Canada head coach John Herdman, who should be given enormous credit for the current state of the men’s program. “If you go to France, Germany, Italy, England, Brazil, Argentina they’ll ask who’s Canada? But I think internally, as a country, we’ve started to believe things are possible, and it’s just the same mentality — one game at a time.
