On Sunday, the Canadian government released an official list of U.S. products facing a 25 percent tariff when imported into Canada . This announcement came less than 24 hours after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's response to U.S. President Donald Trump 's tariffs on Canadian goods. The initial list, effective Tuesday, encompasses $30 million worth of goods, targeting a range of products from food to manufacturing.
A subsequent list, scheduled for release in 21 days, will impact an additional $125 billion worth of U.S. products. The targeted products span various categories, including: fresh meat, poultry, and edible offal; pig and poultry fat; legumes; melons and papayas; coffee; spices; margarine and butter substitutes; sugar and molasses; pasta; fruit, nut, and vegetable juices; ceramic sanitary fixtures; imitation jewelry; hand tools; fans (table, floor, wall, window, ceiling, or roof); air or vacuum pumps, compressors, and ventilating hoods; harvesting and threshing machinery; shotguns; animal control devices; chandeliers and electric lighting fixtures; and non-electrical lamps and lighting fittings.The Canadian government has stressed that these tariffs are a necessary response to unfair trade practices by the U.S. government. However, exceptions will be made for cases where similar goods cannot be sourced from outside the United States or in other unique circumstances.
