Canadians in eligible provinces will receive another tax-free payment to help offset the cost of federal pollution pricing in January.

Your bank account might be looking a little bare thanks to holiday shopping, but it will look a little fuller in the New Year, with Canadians receiving a fresh round of the Canada Carbon Rebate in January. ( CCR ), formerly the Climate Action Incentive payment, is a tax-free amount that helps individuals and families offset the cost of federal pollution pricing .

Under the federal pollution pricing system, the government puts a price on pollution in regions that do not have their own pricing system. These regions include Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, and Ontario. To be eligible, residents in those provinces must be at least 19 years old in the month before the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) makes a payment. If you are under 19 years old, the government says you must meet at least one of the following conditions to be eligible:You are (or were) a parent and live (or lived) with your childThe supplement applies only to residents of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia whose primary residence is outside a Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) and who expect to continue to reside outside the same CMA on April 1, 2024. All CCR recipients in Prince Edward Island are eligible for the rural supplement, which is included in their basic amount. Canadians last received a CCR on October 15. The next payment after January 15, 2025, is expected on April 15
