The City of Campbell River says a pond in a local park has reopened after crews finished removing more than 1,700 goldfish from the water.
took nearly two weeks to completeThe city says that the pond needed to be drained to collect the roughly 1,746 invasive goldfish, and that salamanders and newts at the pond had to be relocated.“The number and size of the goldfish that had to be removed really shows why this species is such a challenge when released to nature,” said Steve Roehr, Campbell River operations manager, utilities.
