Cameron Diaz has proved once again why she’s everyone’s favourite Hollywood star.
Removing herself from the spotlight, however, has helped her on her journey towards self-acceptance. “The last thing I think about on a daily basis, maybe not at all during the day, is what I look like,” she muses. It’s a refreshing departure from her life as an actor, where she would spend hours in front of the mirror in hair and make-up “picking [her]self apart”.
“It’s toxic,” she adds. “It’s like, ‘Why am I sitting here being so mean to myself? My body is strong; my body is capable, why am I going to talk down to it when its carried me this far?’” Her advice to overcome this sort of self-criticism? “Stop looking in the mirror and stop talking selfies.” As Diaz prepares to turn 50, she’s looking forward to the future. “I can’t wait to be 50, it’s so great because you just know more.” As for how she intends to age, when it comes to her appearance, she isn’t concerned. “I don’t want it to be about what I look like,” she says, admitting that she rarely even washes her face. “I literally do nothing. I have billions of products that I use twice a month if I’m lucky.
Instead, Diaz wants to channel her energies into feeling strong, fit and full of energy for her daughter. “I want to feel vital for my child,” she says. “I want to be the mum that runs around. I want my energy to stay vital.”
