Are pink slips as proof of title a thing of the past?
Q: I’ve been following the Caltrain extension to downtown San Francisco for a while. $7 billion seems way too much for this project. When did we vote on this? I’m in Santa Clara County, which is part of the Joint Powers Board for San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties, and I don’t remember voting on it. If there hasn’t been a vote by the public, when will it come, do you know? My vote on this would be no.
Q: I recently bought a pre-owned car from a dealership. I just got the registration, but no car title. Has the DMV stopped issuing pink slips? My husband didn’t get one, either, when he recently changed the ownership on an inherited car.A: The DMV still issues these forms to customers, however they are no longer pink. The information formerly on a pink slip can be found on the tear-off piece attached to the vehicle title.
If a customer finances a vehicle, the finance company retains the title documents until the loan is paid in full. Once the lien is lifted, the vehicle owner receives the title. Any change of the current registered owner or lienholder of a vehicle requires transferring the title to the new owner. Transfer of ownership between the seller and the buyer must be started with the DMV within 10 days of the sale of the vehicle. Customers will need to provide:Once the DMV receives this information, a new title will be issued in the customer’s name with the tear-off piece attached, showing the information you used to find on a pink sheet.
