Calls for an independent inquiry into the E. coli outbreak at Calgary daycares are growing louder as hundreds of children have become sick.
The disease is suspected to have originated in the central kitchen operated by Fueling Minds — an affiliate of Fueling Brains — that is shared by several daycares. The kitchen has had a cockroach infestation and has been cited for several sanitary violations throughout the year, although some had been addressed before the site was reopened.
Public health officials are interviewing children and workers connected to the affected daycares, noting their food histories. They are also comparing data from children infected by the virus and those who avoided it.
