A California teenager is in custody awaiting trial on charges of selling fentanyl to an undercover federal agent who was unwittingly allowed into his home to complete a $2,700 deal.
Alejandro Angel Lopez, 19, met with undercover agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration several times between July and November 2022 to buy fentanyl in Oakland, the Mercury News reported. His final deal happened when he met agents in the parking lot of an auto supply store in November to deliver 4 ounces. Now he could face up to 40 years in prison if convicted.
Lopez was tricked from the start when an acquaintance who started working with the DEA as an informant set up a drug deal and introduced him to the agent. Lopez unwittingly agreed to sell the agent 4 ounces of methamphetamine and half a pound of fentanyl in July 2022.The pair met on a street corner, but when the agent asked for a bigger stash of drugs, Lopez said he had that amount at home. He got inside the agent’s car, and the pair drove to Lopez’s house and went inside.
