California lawmakers introduced six new bills that won’t just impact concert tickets, but also hotel fees, car rentals, and even additional costs for housing and electric vehicles.
Californian Assemblymember Laura Friedman introduced Assembly Bill 8 which would crack down on hidden"junk" fees from concerts.If there’s anything to learn from 2022, it’s that you don’t mess with Swifties. The Ticketmaster disaster that left thousands of fans without tickets to a Taylor Swift tour has prompted lawmakers at the federal and state levels to crack down on business practices such as “dynamic pricing" and other hidden fees that many consumers abhor.
California lawmakers have introduced a package of six new bills that won’t just impact concert tickets, but also hotel fees, car rentals, and even additional costs for housing and electric vehicles., which would require ticket sellers to be transparent to the consumer about the total price of a ticket — which would include fees and surcharges — when choosing their seats. The bill also requires sellers to provide a link specifying the refund requirements.
“This bait-and-surcharge business is wolfish and unfair to consumers, who are making price comparisons to make the best use their hard-earned dollars,” Friedman said in a
