California regulators are investigating allegations of gender discrimination and sexual harassment at Riot Games.
Workers at Riot Games in Los Angeles during a May 6 walkout to protest the company’s handling of sexual-harassment lawsuits.
The action, filed Wednesday in state Superior Court in Los Angeles, was necessary because Riot Games “has refused to provide the Department with adequate information” for the agency “to analyze whether women are paid less than men at the company,” the department said. “When companies fail to cooperate voluntarily with our investigations, including with our investigative discovery, [the department] will exercise its right to seek assistance from the courts,” he said.
Riot Games also has said it has a “zero-tolerance policy on discrimination, harassment, retaliation, bullying and general toxicity.”, alleging violations of the California Equal Pay Act as well as gender-based discrimination, retaliation and harassment.
