California subsidized battery and hybrid EVs for decades. It took that long to make them a viable alternative for some drivers, but they are still not the best option for everyone. Range and charging times for electric vehicles have improved, but are still not as good as my Hyundai Nexo. I can fill my car in minutes and leave with 375 miles in range. That is far preferable for people who drive a lot or live in apartment buildings where it is hard to install EV chargers.
