A new law in California requires most fast food workers to be paid at least $20 an hour, acknowledging that many of them are adults supporting their families. The statewide minimum wage in California is $16 per hour, one of the highest in the country.
The federal minimum wage in the United States stands at $7.25, and has not increased since 2009. For tipped workers, that pay rate is even lower: $2.13.
