Northern California residents, say hello to the 350 area code.

The new area code was added due to high demand for phone numbers in the existing 209 area code local — which encompasses parts of the northern Central Valley. According to the California Public Utilities Commission, the new area code will cover at least parts of Alameda, Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties. The new number will affect notable areas and cities including Modesto, Merced, Stockton, Tracy and Yosemite National Park.
CPUC approved the new area code back in May but the new numbers did not start getting distributed until Monday, November 28th., CPUC noted that current phone numbers will not change and the new area code will not affect what is considered a local call. CPUC also made clear that residents can still dial just three numbers to call 911 or for other public services like 411.
While area codes may seem inconsequential, some people feel extremely strongly about their home area codes, which can convey strong regional pride.as numbers with the 510 area code started to run out. When the change was announced, some pretty notable Oakland residents admitted their affinity for 510.
