A magnitude 6.4 earthquake rocked far Northern California early Tuesday.
There is “some damage” to buildings and infrastructure, and two hospitals in the area lost power and were running on generators, but the scale of the damage appeared to be “minimal” compared to the strength of the quake, Brian Ferguson, a spokesperson for the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, told the Associated Press.
Significant shaking was felt in the small communities of Fortuna and Ferndale, and many on social media shared images of fallen objects in their homes and stores. State Route 211, the main road in and out of the town of Ferndale, was closed at Fernbridge because of damage from the quake.
