Calgary\u0027s Kaitlyn Bowman rink trying to feel its way through Autumn Gold Curling Classic and beyond
Kaitlyn Bowman is back in the competitive curling groove, fresh off four years away from the thrills and spills of the women’s game.“You want to hear something funny about our team?” said the local skip Friday, following the first draw of the 2023 Autumn Gold Curling Classic at the Calgary Curling Club. “So my teammates are Sasha, Anna, Hannah … you can imagine what I’m calling on the ice.”
As is 24-year-old Tran, the younger sister of veteran curler Brittany Tran and a product of Red Deer. While it’s not as top-end stacked this year, there’s still plenty of stars, including defending champion Gim Eun-ji of South Korea, 2021 champ Tabitha Peterson from Minnesota, reigning Alberta curling queen Kayla Skrlik of Calgary, Scotties veteran Kerry Galusha of the Northwest Territories and 2022 Olympic silver medallist Satsuki Fujisawa of Japan.
Forward into Friday night’s B event, with hopes of improving as the weekend — and time, in general — goes on.“So in full disclosure, that was actually our first game as a foursome,” said Bowman of Friday’s start at the Calgary Curling Club. “Hannah was not able to make our first event due to illness, and so we kind of had to pivot and rally around that. Now it’s just kind of building every game we go out there. And we think about our communication and how we can work with each other better.
