Calgary's Kayla Skrlik rises fast to capture Alberta Scotties curling crown yyc
By virtue, indeed, of Sunday’s winning finish in the final at Wetaskiwin, Skrlik and her Calgary Curling Club crew will don Alberta’s colours at the Scotties, scheduled for Feb. 17-26.
Meanwhile, Scheidegger and her Lethbridge Curling Club squad are slotted high enough in the Canadian Team Ranking System standings — in sixth position — to be a supposed shoo-in for one of three wild-card teams qualifying for the national finale, hosted by the Sandman Centre in Kamloops. With a nose hit, Skrlik then counted two in the fifth. A perfect come-around from Tran proved to be the key shot of the end to give the Calgary crew a 5-4 lead at the break.
Down one in the ninth end, Scheidegger set up the house for a chance at three, but a perfect freeze by Skrlik with her last stone cut the count to two after the Lethbridge skip drew right to the button.
