The Calgary Police Service (CPS) prepares for the upcoming G7 summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, in 2025. CPS will balance its regular responsibilities in the city with providing security support for the summit, working alongside the RCMP. Cost concerns are alleviated by Calgary Police Chief Mark Neufeld.

Supt. Joe Brar says that with a major global event happening west of Calgary, CPS will fulfil its regular responsibilities in the city while sharing resources to help police the summit.Calgary police Chief Mark Neufeld says costs associated with policing the G7 summit are not likely to impact the city budget. The Calgary Police Service says it's readying for the next G7 leaders' summit, which is set to take place in Kananaskis, Alta., in 2025.

"We want to ensure that this event goes smoothly," he said, adding officers will prioritize minimizing disruptions to the daily lives of Calgarians. "The planning team, based on what we've seen, based on intelligence, have together a budget that we believe would cover all that. And at this point, there has been no pushback from our partners over at Public Safety Canada."

CPS will request mutual aid from other law enforcement agencies across Canada in order to fill in gaps created by the increased demand on officers during the summit.
