Kevin Allen Honish was killed in July 2022. His former roommate was convicted of manslaughter. Collin Oxtoby, 50, was found guilty of manslaughter last month in the 2022 death of Kevin Honish, 55.
On Tuesday, defence lawyer Jim Lutz proposed a four-year sentence while prosecutor Gord Haight asked Justice Michele Hollins to impose a six-year prison term. As part of the sentencing hearing, Honish's sister, Tammy Doucette, read aloud a victim impact statement on behalf of her family.On the night of June 7, 2022, Oxtoby and Honish got into a fight in the home they shared in the southeast community of Albert Park.The victim and his girlfriend then walked to a friend's home where his condition deteriorated.He was taken to hospital and died eight days later.
In his interview with police, Oxtoby expressed that he did not believe he caused the fatal injuries because Honish walked out of the house on his own accord and did not seem seriously injured.CBC Calgary crime reporter Meghan Grant is a justice affairs reporter.
