Calgary and area ringette teams shoot for gold at nationals yyc
“At the end of the day with a competition like this, it’s a long grind,” said Fusion head coach Leigh Sauer. “It’s potentially eight or nine games over six days if you’re gonna make it all the way to the end. So staying healthy is going to be important. So is being able to get contributions from everyone in your lineup, just because it is such a long tournament. You can’t just rely on a couple of players to do it all — you need everybody — so that’s going to be huge.
“But our biggest strength is just the way we play as a team,” Sauer said. “Our team has really gelled together well this year. It’s a good group that gets along that pulls for each other and that supports each other well. We certainly have some top-end players, but it’s not like we rely on one or two players for our success. We get contributions from everybody offensively and defensively, and our goaltending has been very good all season long.
