The grand opening of the Camp Hill-based coffee shop, which helps survivors of sex trafficking learn life skills, will take place Tuesday morning.
Good Ground Coffee Company, a shop that employs survivors of sex trafficking, will have its grand opening Tuesday. The shop is more than just a place to pick up a cappuccino or treat before heading to work. The Camp Hill-based cafe will also teach job and life skills to the survivors with the help of their partner organization, Peace Promise. The business was founded by two recent Messiah University graduates, Rachel Beatty and Rachel Ferrence, who proposed the idea as part of a class project.
They learned that employment is one of the biggest barriers survivors face on their journey to freedom. The founders both say sex trafficking is an undercover issue in the Harrisburg area because of the major highways that run through the Susquehanna Valley. They believe it's important to continue spreading awareness of the issue.'It's not very obvious. It's happening all around us,' Beatty said.
