A snowshoer was hoisted to safety after they suffered an injury while sliding down a steep Vancouver Island mountain slope, say search and rescue crews.

Alberni Valley search and rescue crews responded to 5040 after a female snowshoer suffered injuries. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025.

The call came in on Saturday and the victim had slid about 100 metres before stopping against a tree, the volunteer-based squad said in “The rescue involved members from the CDFL/Hoist Team in partnership with Ascent Helicopters,” said AVRS. “Rescuers were able to hover-exit out of the helicopter and make their way to the subject with crampons and ice axes…”“Thankfully, while the subject waited for crews to arrive, two bystanders provided assistance by keeping the injured individual warm and stabilizing her injuries,” added AVRS.
