The sport’s journal Fly Fisherman said that it was a story Carter contributed to the magazine in 1982 about fishing Pennsylvania’s Spruce Creek that revived interest in the sport. His story was about how then-Fly Fisherman editor John Randolph brought all the great anglers of the time to Camp David in 1980 to give Carter some tips for his fishing on Spruce.
