Next time you enjoy a beer along White Rock’s waterfront, you may be helping rebuild the city’s storm-damaged pier.
Friends of the Pier Fundraising Committee says rebuilding the pier will take two years and cost an estimated $16.2 million. Committee chair Bob Bezubiak says even with insurance money, contributions from other levels of government, and dipping into the city’s reserves, the community will still face a $2-million shortfall.
To cover the shortfall, the committee has launched a fundraising drive that includes a summer-long “Buy-a-Beer-for-the-Pier” promotion at the city’s waterfront pubs and restaurants, and during its TD Concerts for the Pier. Proceeds from every beer sale will go towards rebuilding the pier.
