Business and Professional Women Sault Ste. Marie will celebrate on Thursday, May 21
NEWS RELEASE BPW SAULT STE. MARIE ************************ The plans to celebrate our 75th anniversary is to happen on Thursday, May 21. A thank you to this community for your support over the years.
We remember those who worked within the organization at provincial, national and international levels from Sault Ste. Marie. A few highlights of working with other organizations in the community include the setup of Women in Crisis, Public Safety Audit of the Civic Centre and Take Back the Night marches. We also created resolutions for BPW Ontario with regards to Ontario Elections Act Posting of voters lists and Ontario Ministry of Health with regard to Breast Cancer Screening age reduction.
Our sister organization Business and Professional Women’s Club of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan USA donated two flowering crab trees that were planted on the Civic Centre grounds in 1976 to commemorate International Women’s Decade and friendship of the two countries. BPW Sault Ste. Marie has supported bursaries since 1966 at both Sault College and Algoma University.
With community nominations we had celebrated women of the community during the week of International Women’s Day for over 30 years. Members of this organization over the years have contributed to the development of legislation and laws at the provincial and national level. At the international level BPW International has Consultative Status at the United Nations. The members did not want to let this milestone anniversary pass without a celebration.
To attend the celebration contact Marlene at 705-946-5642. More information on the organization can be found at bpwontario.com, bpwcanada.com and bpw-international.org. ************************
