Bus carrying youth hockey team involved in crash, everyone stable
Police in Warsaw, Indiana have said that 16 students from the St. Ignatius College Prep junior varsity boys hockey team were injured when a tractor-trailer hit the school’s bus on Saturday evening.
There were 23 people on board the bus, with no fatalities. A Twitter account for the police department said that the injured students are all now listed as being in stable condition. In a statement, the police said the student’s ages range from 14-17 years old, and that at least one was ejected from the bus.
The driver of the semi-truck is currently being held pending charges for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and causing serious injury. According to police, the driver drove through a red light and struck the rear of the bus, flipping it over. According to the New York Post, Victor Santos, the 58-year-old truck driver, had a “strong odor” and failed sobriety tests.UPDATE ON LAST NIGHT’S BUS vs. SEMI ACCIDENT: > All injured, including most critical, now listed in stable condition.
