Police are asking for help identifying a suspect who allegedly scammed a senior out of $9,000 by posing as a bank employee over the phone.

Mounties in Burnaby are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect who allegedly scammed a senior out of thousands of dollars. On Sept. 21, 2024, a report was made to RCMP involving a suspect who entered a financial institution in South Burnaby and withdrew $9,000 from the victim's account. In a news release, Burnaby Mounties spokesperson Cpl.

Mike Kalanj says the suspect allegedly posed as an employee over the phone and obtained the victim's date of birth and passwords the day before the fraud happened. Police later found out the suspect had attended four financial institutions across the Lower Mainland from Sept. 21 to 23 but was only successful in one of the four attempts. 'If you ever receive a call from someone claiming to be from the bank, hang up and call the bank directly,' Kalanj added. 'Criminals are continually finding new ways to commit fraud, so please take the time to have this conversation with your loved ones.' Anyone who may be able to identify the suspect is asked to call Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 and quote file number 2024-32632
