Traffic stops by Burnaby RCMP's gang enforcement team have led to drug seizures and arrests.
Kilograms of meth, thousands of contraband cigarettes, a Tesla, and tens of thousands of dollars in suspected ill-gotten cash are some of the items seized by Burnaby RCMP’s anti-gang squad recently as it looks to disrupt gang activity in the city.
Last Tuesday, the Burnaby gang enforcement team stopped a vehicle near Metrotown after observing a driving infraction, according to spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj.The driver, a 52-year-old man with a drug-related criminal record, was arrested.Two other ongoing investigations relate to seizures in May.The driver in that case, a 35-year-old man, had convictions for drugs and firearms.Along with the vehicle, a Tesla, officers seized 312 grams of suspected cocaine, 3.
And on May 25, the gang squad pulled over a vehicle near Madison Avenue and Lougheed Highway in Brentwood and found four kilograms of methamphetamine inside. The occupants, a 41-year-old man and a 31-year-old man, both had drug and firearms histories, according to Kalanj. They were arrested, and their vehicle was seized along with the drugs, four cell phones, a knife and cash.
