Burlington Coat Factory has signed a lease to occupy a big store site in San Jose.
SAN JOSE — Burlington Coat Factory has signed a lease to occupy a big store site in San Jose, taking space in a building that would also accommodate a Sprouts Farmers Market, according to public documents.
The expansion efforts by the merchants offer a hopeful counterpoint to the dismal drumbeat of cutbacks by corporations and retailers in parts of the Bay Area, especially San Francisco. Sprouts Farmers Market is eyeing about 24,000 square feet in the same building in a space that would be next to the Burlington site.
Much of the building was formerly occupied by a Fallas discount store that is now closed. WSS shoe store also operated in that building but has departed and has reopened at a new location on Monterey Road south of downtown San Jose. The timing for a move into the building by either or both Burlington Coat Factory and Sprouts Farmers Market wasn’t immediately clear. Tenant improvements didn’t appear to be underway inside the building.
