The Bulls clinched a playoff berth for the first time since 2017 on a night their disparity with the league’s elite teams got laid bare once again.

On the other, from the pregame news that Lonzo Ball’s season is on the verge of officially ending to the final buzzer, there’s still plenty of work to be done.

In his eighth season, this will be the first playoff experience for Zach LaVine, who sat out Tuesday as he continues to deal with his balky left knee. Similarly, younger players like Coby White, Patrick Williams and Ayo Dosunmu will be experiencing the intensity that playoff basketball affords for the first time.

Ball’s long-term absence has impacted the Bulls’ ability to control point-of-attack defense, score in transition and keep defenses honest from 3-point range. After a hot start to the season, Alex Caruso has missed significant time to various injuries, including a fractured wrist, and is now battling a sore back as he tries to make similar impact.

“But for sure, it means a lot for us as players, the organization, the fans, the city. Hopefully we can continue to do well.”
