On the ice, Auston Matthews is on fire. He forever engraved his place in Toronto Maple Leafs hockey lore this week by reaching 55 and then 56 goals scored in this 2021-22 NHL season. It’s the most by a Maple Leafs player in franchise history, breaking former Toronto captain Rick Vaive’s mark of 54 goals set in 1981-82. The 56 goals are also the most ever by an American-born player in NHL history.
