Blue Jays 3 at Yankees 4 A seemingly interminable five-and-a-half after it began, interrupted by a nearly two hour rain delay and various shenanigans, the Blue Jays were walked off in the 10th by the Yankees, squandering a multitude of opportunities in the process while the bullpen let one slip away to drop the rubbermatch of the weekend and season series. The Jays took an early lead off Gerrit Cole, but failed to take advantage of him while he was vulnerable and build up a real cushion.
Another single followed to load the bases, but then the sublime Dr. Yariel emerged and asserted himself over the ineffectual Mr. Rodriguez. A pop out and att’em ball right at Clement ended the inning, and a couple singles in the third were the only blemishes on his line. After retiring the first two in the 5th, he hit his pitch count and was removed one out shy of qualifying for the win with a final line of 4.2 shutout innings, 4 hits and a walk against 4 strikeouts.
