In the future of Buffy the Last Vampire Slayer, Willow's death is revealed, and she goes out a hero. In a world where the sun has been blotted out, vampires walk free, and Willow's coven are taken out trying to clear the skies.
The iconic story of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was brought to a glorious conclusion in a comic book series detailing her last mission as Slayer–a story that also gives Buffy’s long-time friend and monster-hunting ally Willow the honorable and heroic death she always deserved.
Buffy Summers and Willow Rosenberg were introduced as seemingly normal high school students until Buffy discovered that she was what’s known as a Slayer–someone with supernaturally enhanced abilities and an inherent proficiency at monster hunting. When Buffy found out she was a Slayer, Willow just went along for the ride and helped Buffy slay a number of beasts including vampires, demons, and even evil robots–until Willow realized that she had some supernatural gifts of her own.
The Last Heroic Act of Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Willow When Thessaly found Buffy and told her that she was the daughter of Willow and Tara, Buffy asked what happened to her old friends as it had been years since they last spoke. Thessaly tells Buffy that Tara and Willow tried to use their magic to produce a powerful spell that would heal the sun after it lost most of its light.
While it is sad that Willow was dead years before Buffy was even aware of her fate–given their long-standing friendship in the original series–that shouldn’t detract from the beauty behind Willow’s sacrifice. Willow was always playing second fiddle to Buffy, but upon her death, she was the protagonist of her story as Willow worked to use her magic to heal the sun and prevent the world from falling into darkness–both figuratively and literally.
