Brush fire prompts evacuations in Oceanside [Breaking]
A brush fire that ignited in Oceanside was threatening homes in the Loma Alta Creek area of Oceanside Wednesday morning, officials said.
Firefighters and Oceanside police were notifying residents in a two-block area near Joseph Carrasco Park that they were subject to the mandatory evacuation order. Specifically, residents in the 1300 block of Eldean Lane and the 2500 block of Skylark Drive were urged to leave their homes. An evacuation center was set up at Lincoln Middle School, 2000 California St., to accomodate those fleeing the fire.
Police also shut down several roads in the area. The roads that were closed including Dunstan Street east of Knoll Drive and Skylark Drive east of Patridge Lane. Police asked residents to avoid the area. The fire was reported around 10:30 a.m. in the Loma Alta Creek area of Oceanside, burning on vacant land near Industry Street, officials said.Firefighters from Oceanside and Carlsbad were working the fire. In addition, two Sheriff’s Department fire helicopters were dispatched, said Oceanside police spokesperson Jennifer Atenza.No other information was immediately available.
