Lucy Bronze will miss England Women’s match against Switzerland in Zurich on Thursday due to sickness. The defender has tested negative for COVID-19 and will continue to be monitored by medical staff in the coming days.“It’s not Covid, because we did some testing and she’s negative.”
Defender Bronze signed a two-year deal with Barcelona earlier this month after announcing she would leave Manchester City in May. In the 2021-22 Women’s Super League season, Bronze picked up two assists in 13 league matches as City finished third in the table behind Arsenal and Chelsea. She also played a key role in helping her side reach the Women’s FA Cup final.
Bronze is a potentially key player for England at the Euros. She picked up The Best FIFA Women’s Player in 2020 award after winning the treble and her third successive UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy with Lyon. She rejoined City for the second time in the same year after initially leaving the club in 2017.
The match against Switzerland will be England’s third warm-up fixture for the Euros after beating Belgium 3-0 at Molineux and the Netherlands 5-1 at Elland Road.
