AJ Smith-Shawver Under 4.5 strikeouts It’s not often you back both pitchers by grabbing the Under and proceed to fade their props, but I think this matchup warrants it.
Rea is the more likely of the two to run into trouble and get knocked out of the game considering the Braves’ other-worldly offense, so the short number here doesn’t scare me. On top of that, the Braves have struck out in just 22.3% of plate appearances and Rea ranks in the Bottom 20% of the league in whiff rate.
The Brewers are a very contact-heavy team, striking out in just 21.4% of plate appearances, so I don’t think Smith-Shawver is going to rack up the punch outs here. On the other side, without the Brewers’ ability to hit fly balls, I’m scared to take a bite out of them straight up, even at a juicy price of +150. This is a very bad offense , and even if their pitching staff has been amazing they’re going to have to find a way to put up a few runs to win this one. I’d definitely take the Braves here if I were asked to take a side. Rea is not a consistently effective pitcher.
