Nearly two months after he was waived by the Washington Capitals after making disparaging comments about women and teammates online, Brendan Leipsic has found a new home in the KHL.
Tuesday that the 26-year-old from Winnipeg has signed a one-year deal with CSKA Moscow after four years in the NHL.
Leipsic’s exit from the NHL began this spring when a conversation involving his brother and Florida Panthers minor leaguer Jack Rodewald leaked online. In the chat, Leipsic insulted the physical appearances of Vancouver Canucks forward Tanner Pearson’s wife and Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid’s girlfriend. He also called then-Capitals linemates Garnet Hathaway and Nick Dowd losers.for his “inappropriate and offensive” comments.
“I am committed to learning from this and becoming a better person by taking time to determine how to move forward in an accountable, meaningful way. I am truly sorry,” Leipsic said. The Nashville Predators selection had three goals and eight assists across 61 games during his first season with Washington, his sixth NHL organization since being drafted in 2012.
