WHITBY, ONT. — Heavy equipment is going to be needed to remove an overhead sign that collapsed on Highway 401 in Whitby, Ont. this morning , causing major traffic delays in the area. The incident occurred on Highway 401 westbound at Brock Street and blocked all lanes in that direction forcing traffic to now exit off Thickson Road. “It looks like there was a collision of some sort that a vehicle or something has struck the sign causing it to collapse,” reported Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kerry Schmidt in a video on Twitter. “This will take some time to remedy. It will require some heavy equipment to come in, a crane to come and remove the sign from the highway. In the meantime, all traffic Highway 401 westbound approaching the GTA is going to be forced off at Thickson Road.”
