As the hiccups continue on the ever\u002Dchanging Ottawa Senators defence — Jakob Chychrun is doubtful for Saturday’s game against the New Jersey Devils — Erik Brannstrom is emerging as the ultimate survivor.

The goal was only the second of the season and fourth in 180 Senators games for Brannstrom, originally billed as an offensive catalyst.

There’s little question that Brannstrom’s confidence is growing. While there’s endless discussion about what the Senators should do to deal with the fact they’re overloaded with natural left side defencemen, the Senators number 26 simply wants to line up somewhere.
