The Bears trailed 25-20 at halftime and shot out fast in the third with an 8-0 run as part of a 20-point period to take a 40-35 lead. Flemings scored 14 to lead the Bears. Freshman Isaiah Ward, who was returning from injury, had 12. Freshman Talon Todd had 11 points and sank a pair of clutch 3-pointers in fourth. Another freshman guard, Donovan Criss, made a trey with 0:39 left in the fourth for a 55-51 Bears lead.
“That was our focus all week — beat them on the boards,” Flemings said. “We beat them 15 to three on the offensive boards and we got some defensive boards.”“That’s what were taught in practice all the time — rebound real hard,” Jackson said. “You just got to keep shooting. Eventually, they are going to fall. As long as we play hard and play defense. Defense wins the game, really.”
