A Birmingham man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for the 2016 killing of his girlfriend in Homewood.Tavarus Jerome Jackson,Shuterica Lipscomb, 22, was killed in the Dec. 5, 2016, shooting at her Overlook at Homewood apartment on Valley Ridge Drive.
According to police and family, Jackson dropped his wounded girlfriend and one of her friends off at the door of the hospital and then fled in Lipscomb’s car. Police at the apartment complex found an open door to Lipscomb’s apartment and blood on the bathroom floor. Jackson was alter taken into custody when he returned to Lipscomb’s apartment.
“Everything had just started to work out for her like she wanted it to,’’ her aunt, Sandra Thomas, toldLipscomb had a 2-year-old daughter and a 7-month-old daughter; she shared the younger child with Jackson. The girls were staying with relatives in Evergreen and weren’t at the apartment when the shooting happened.
