“It’s always been a passion to reach out to those members who struggle with substance abuse,” Patricia Germany said.
Some people are doing exactly what they’re supposed to do. Not to be hyperbolic, but it’s what they were created to do. It’s their destiny. In church the pastor would call it “walking in your purpose,” and that best describes Patricia Germany., I knew this is a woman truly walking in her purpose. In fact, she’s been walking in that purpose one way or another for most of her life.
Her salon became a “safe haven” for women to bare their souls to someone who cared and wouldn’t pass judgment, Randolph said. Randolph didn’t say much during our interview, but when he spoke, he spoke about his wife in a way that only a proud husband could. As we talked, I could tell Randolph isn’t just proud of his wife, he’s also grateful for her. She helped Randolph turn his life around, and he’s been a licensed practical nurse for more than 20 years.
Germany grew up in the 46218 ZIP code, and she’s seen her childhood neighborhood go from “kid-friendly” to one filled with abandoned homes, blight and drug houses. This time the couple is working together to create change. Their latest endeavor began taking shape in 2019 after years of being at a standstill. Eighteen years ago, Germany’s parents gave them a home, but it sat vacant, boarded up and collecting fines for many of those years.
