An eight-year-old boy with an inoperable brain tumour is set to become the first person from the UK to undergo a new immunotherapy treatment.
Rudi Abbot was diagnosed with a grade four pineoblastoma in August 2020 after suffering severe headaches.accounts for less than one in 100 of all brain tumours, according to Cancer Research UK.
He then had four months of gruelling chemotherapy at the Royal Hospital for Children in Edinburgh as well as six weeks of proton therapy in Germany to help destroy the cancer cells. In April, Rudi, from Portobello in Edinburgh, was accepted for a pilot programme of immunotherapy in the US city of Seattle that his family hopes will slow the growth of the tumour.Rudi will be the first in the UK to get the CAR-T treatment
