Illumination/Universal’s Despicable Me 4 earned an impressive $75 million over its first three days, resulting in a $122.6M 5-day domestic bow, per Deadline. That number exceeded early expectations, which projected closer to $100M. However, a massive $27M Friday and $26.8M Saturday put all projections in the rearview mirror. Despicable Me 4 is second in the franchise regarding 3-day openings, behind only Despicable Me 2’s $83.5M, but fourth overall if you include the Minions spinoffs.
Inside Out 2, meanwhile, dropped to No. 2 but continues to rake in big bucks, adding another $33.1M to its massive domestic haul. The sequel has earned $536.9M domestically and $1.217B worldwide. Domestically, it needs around $75M to top Incredibles 2 and just $30M to become the studio’s No. 1 highest-grossing release.
Elsewhere, the Ti West/Mia Goth horror flick MaXXXine enjoyed the biggest “X Series” opening, slashing its way to $6.7M. Audiences awarded the threequel a B.
