The initiative will limit the access of a 17\u002Dkilometre strip on the Bow Valley Parkway to cyclists until Oct. 2
, was first floated to the public in 2021. After the majority of those surveyed supported a “vehicular-free” zone along the scenic roadway, Parks Canada committed to making part of the highway a bike route twice a year — during the fall and in spring between May 1 and June 25.During the upcoming pilot, which runs from Sept. 1 to Oct. 2, people can still travel in vehicles on the 31-km strip on the western end of the highway, which runs from Castle Junction to Lake Louise.
Parks Canada encourages those who plan to use the Bow Valley Parkway to start and end their journey in Banff by parking at the Banff Train Station, while advising them to “plan ahead and bring sufficient food and water, bear spray, appropriate clothing, gear for variable weather and bike repair tools.”There was an error, please provide a valid email address.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.
