Sgt. Eric Mueller died from gunshot wounds and two other OPP officers were injured in the incident early last Thursday.
The Special Investigations Unit said Tuesday that the shot came from the firearm of the two officers who were injured, but survived the early-morning shooting. Another officer, Sgt. Eric Mueller, died from his gunshot wounds later in hospital.
“While no one was struck as a result of the police firearm discharge, the SIU has invoked its mandate to look at that aspect of the incident. Section 16 of the Special Investigations Unit Act, 2019, provides that police firearm discharges fall within the Unit’s jurisdiction even where they do not result in injury,” the SIU announcement said.Article content
