After a year of challenges for LGBTQ community, Pride celebrations are also a moment to celebrate and protest.
Uganda recently criminalized homosexuality, introducing a bill that includes life in prison and even the death penalty for homosexuality. And Amnesty International Canada reports a global trend of hate and violence toward the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

“Pride really comes out of a protest. The Stonewall riots in New York City in 1969 were a response to years of harassment, police raids, and entrapment. Demonstrating was to show the presence of a community. It is a way of saying we are not going to accept this anymore. It is a display of pride, but it has always been a day of protest. It has always been controversial,” said Frackman.
