British lawmakers reject PM Boris Johnson’s request to hold a general election on December 12 after the EU agreed to delay Brexit by three months

Legislators voted by 299-70 for Johnson's motion to hold a December 12 election — short of the two-thirds majority of the 650 members of parliament needed for it to pass. Earlier, he had accused his opponents of betraying voters' decision to leave the EU by thwarting the government's Brexit plans. In a letter to Tusk, Johnson said that under UK law "I have no discretion to do anything other than confirm the UK's formal agreement to this extension."Johnson urged the 27 other EU countries "to make clear that a further extension after 31 January is not possible."
