The same Daily Mail article continues to report how the long-lost book somehow ended up 1,000 away in Croatia, where it was donated to another library after the unknown keeper no longer had any want of it. A helpful librarian there recognized markings in the book as belonging to Gainsborough, and sent it back to its home shelves.
“When I saw it, I wondered if it could really be ours because there is a Gainsborough library in Lincolnshire and there are also towns called Ipswich in Australia and the United States,” says the British location’s library and information adviser, Kim Risby. “But I checked on Google and confirmed that we are the only Gainsborough branch library in a Borough of Ipswich.”that the book remains in good condition, and even came back to a newly renovated institution for it to get settled into.
“I’ve always felt, and I’m sure the rest of Suffolk Libraries agree, that it takes passion to work in libraries, and it’s nice to know that that Is a feeling shared by other librarians in other parts of the world,” continues Risby.bit before 60 years have passed!” Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
