Boerne won to advance to the state championships in Dallas.Houston Hendrix walked off the field holding a state semifinal trophy and a relieved smile.
Junior running back T.J. Dement rushed for 180 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries to lead the Greyhounds. “That was a huge touchdown,” Dement said. “It really shut them down. They had a lot of energy coming out the second half.”Boerne limited the speedy Bulldogs to 215 total yards and nine first downs. The Greyhounds forced five turnovers.
“Nobody thought we could run with them,” Che Hendrix said. “Nobody thought we could play with them. But we’ve got a tough group, and they want to win, and they play for each other. When you play as a team, and you believe as a team, great things can happen and I’m just super-proud of them.” Boerne forced a three-and-out and then scored on the next series when Dement scored on a 4-yard run with 5:47 in the first.
